Masterplan aerial view, an innovative medical and life sciences research complex at Central South University, China. The design features three staggered, elongated concrete-and-glass volumes arranged along a trapezoidal site, connected by a central transparent “Spine of Life” — a multi-story public atrium with escalators, cantilevered viewing boxes, and vertical greenery. The north side opens toward a serene lake, with terraced green roofs, stepped platforms, and a breezeway allowing visual and wind penetration. The south side faces a campus road with a clear main entrance. Rooftop gardens at varying levels, modular lab blocks, and a clear separation of pedestrian and service circulation.
